How to brew tea
Get the best flavor with the right temperature, time, and amount. Quick reference below.
Water temperature
- Black & herbal: boiling (100°C / 212°F)
- Green & white: 70–85°C (158–185°F) — avoid bitterness
- Oolong: 85–95°C (185–203°F)
No thermometer? Let boiling water sit 1–2 minutes before pouring on green or white.
Steeping time
- Black: 3–5 min
- Green: 2–3 min (longer = more bitter)
- White & oolong: 2–4 min
- Herbal: 5–7 min or more
Amount per cup
About 2–3 g per 200 ml (one heaped teaspoon loose leaf). Adjust to taste — stronger teas often need less.
Quick tips
- Use fresh water; reboiled can taste flat.
- Preheat cup or pot for even brewing.
- Cover while steeping to keep heat in.
- Store tea in a cool, dry place away from light and odors.
