Herbal teas that support better sleep

A warm, caffeine-free cup before bed can become a powerful signal that it’s time to slow down. Herbal teas are a gentle way to support that transition from day to night.

Chamomile is a classic for good reason. Its mild, apple-like flavor and calming reputation make it a go-to for many. Sipping chamomile about 30–60 minutes before bed can help you unwind without making you drowsy too early.

Lavender adds a floral note and is often used in “sleepy” blends. Even the scent can feel relaxing, so take a moment to breathe in the steam before drinking.

Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free and has a slightly sweet, nutty taste. It’s a good base for blends and won’t interfere with sleep even if you drink it later in the evening.

Other herbs often found in bedtime teas include valerian, passionflower, and lemon balm. If you’re new to these, start with a blend that uses small amounts and see how your body responds. The ritual itself—boiling water, steeping, sipping slowly—can be as important as the herbs.
