Iced English Afternoon with Peach and Mint

Cold-brewed English Afternoon poured over muddled peach and fresh mint—a floral, fruit-forward iced tea perfect for a garden afternoon.

Iced English Afternoon is what summer garden parties were invented for. The blend's lighter, floral character lets fruit flavors shine through instead of fighting them, which makes it the natural canvas for peach—the same fruit that pairs so famously with Darjeeling in countless tearoom menus.

Cold-brewing is the only way to preserve the Darjeeling muscatel notes. Hot brews chilled with ice will turn the tea slightly bitter and flatten its delicate florals. Eight hours in cold water preserves every aromatic compound and produces a clearer, prettier drink.

Use a ripe summer peach—the kind that gives when you press it gently. Muddle two thick slices in the bottom of each glass to release the juices and aromatic oils. If peaches are out of season, frozen unsweetened peach slices work surprisingly well; just thaw them slightly before muddling.

Fresh mint at the end is essential. A few leaves, lightly slapped between the palms to release their oils, transform the drink from a simple iced tea into something that smells like a summer afternoon. Serve in tall glasses with a thick peach slice for garnish—and skip the straw so each sip carries the mint aroma to your nose.

Ingredients

  • 3 English Afternoon tea bags
  • 3 cups cold filtered water
  • 1 ripe peach (or 1 cup frozen peach slices)
  • 2 tbsp honey or simple syrup
  • Fresh mint leaves (small handful)
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Ice cubes (plenty)
  • Peach slices and mint sprigs for garnish

How to make it

  1. 1Cold-brew: place tea bags in cold water in a jar. Refrigerate 8–12 hours.
  2. 2Remove tea bags. Stir in honey and lemon juice until honey dissolves.
  3. 3Slice the peach into thick wedges. In each tall glass, muddle 2 wedges with 3–4 mint leaves at the bottom—press just enough to release juices, not pulverise.
  4. 4Fill the glasses with ice to the top.
  5. 5Pour the cold-brewed tea over the ice. Garnish with a peach slice and a mint sprig. Stir gently before drinking.
