Yingde Hong Honey Ginger Morning Tonic
A warming morning tonic that leans into Yingde Hong's natural malt and honey notes with fresh ginger and a touch of citrus — a steady, grounding way to start the day.
Yingde Hong was built to be a robust, everyday black tea, and this tonic plays directly to that strength. Fresh ginger adds a gentle warming bite that pairs naturally with the tea's own malty sweetness, while a touch of citrus brightens the cup without masking it.
Because Yingde Hong already has a honeyed character on its own, this recipe uses honey sparingly — just enough to round out the ginger's heat rather than to sweeten the tea itself. The goal is a tonic that tastes like a more developed version of the tea, not a sugary drink with tea in it.
Brew on the stronger side here, since the ginger and citrus will dilute the cup slightly. A full rolling boil isn't necessary — water just off the boil, poured over the leaves and ginger together, extracts plenty of flavor without turning bitter.
This is best enjoyed first thing in the morning or as a steady mid-morning reset. As a fully oxidized black tea, Yingde Hong carries meaningful caffeine, so if you're sensitive to it, keep this one earlier in the day rather than after lunch.
