Energy Blend

Herbal infusion

About this tea

Energy Blend is a caffeinated herbal energizer built on two South American powerhouses — yerba mate and guayusa — lifted with cooling peppermint and a touch of ginger. Unlike a coffee jolt, it delivers a clean, sustained kind of lift: the natural caffeine in mate and guayusa arrives steadily and tends to feel smooth rather than jittery. The peppermint adds brightness and a refreshing edge, while ginger contributes a warming spark. The result is an invigorating cup that tastes green and herbaceous up front, with a cooling, lightly spiced finish.

Origin & Production

South America — yerba mate from the Southern Cone; guayusa from the Ecuadorian Amazon

The blend draws its energy from two holly relatives native to South America. Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is grown in northern Argentina, Paraguay, and southern Brazil, where it is the heart of a deeply social drinking culture. Guayusa (Ilex guayusa) comes from the Amazon basin of Ecuador, where Kichwa communities have brewed it for generations. Peppermint and ginger, the supporting players, are widely cultivated aromatic plants. Assembled together, these ingredients combine caffeine-bearing leaves with refreshing and warming herbs to create a balanced, energizing cup.

Production process

1

Harvesting the leaves

Yerba mate and guayusa leaves are harvested from cultivated and agroforestry plots in South America, then prepared for drying — the foundation of the blend's natural caffeine.

2

Drying & curing

Mate is traditionally dried over heat and aged, developing its characteristic green, grassy depth, while guayusa is dried to preserve its smooth, mild character.

3

Adding the herbs

Dried peppermint and cut or ground ginger are combined with the caffeine leaves, balancing the green base with a cooling lift and a warming edge.

4

Blending for balance

The components are blended in proportions that keep the caffeine lift clean and steady while letting the peppermint and ginger brighten the cup without overpowering the mate and guayusa.

5

Packaging

The finished blend is packed in sealed, light-protected containers as loose leaf or tea bags, ready to brew hot or cold for a sustained energy boost.

History & Tradition

Energy Blend is a modern formulation, but its energizing heart comes from two of South America's most storied caffeine plants, each with deep indigenous roots.

1
Pre-Columbian era

Guaraní and mate

The Guaraní peoples of the Southern Cone drank yerba mate long before European contact, valuing it as a stimulating, social, and ceremonial infusion.

2
Ancient Amazon

Guayusa at dawn

Kichwa communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon have brewed guayusa for generations, traditionally rising before dawn to share it as a wakeful, story-telling morning ritual.

3
1600s

Mate spreads

Spanish colonists adopted yerba mate and cultivation spread, embedding the drink in the daily life of Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and southern Brazil.

4
2010s

Guayusa goes global

Guayusa moved from the Amazon to international markets as a smooth, naturally caffeinated tea, often paired with mate in energizing blends.

Energizing blends

Modern herbalists combined mate and guayusa with peppermint and ginger to craft clean, sustained-energy blends as a gentler alternative to coffee.

Health Benefits

Clean, sustained energy

The natural caffeine in yerba mate and guayusa tends to arrive steadily, offering a smooth, lasting lift that many find gentler than the spike-and-crash of coffee.

Focus and alertness

Caffeine paired with the cooling lift of peppermint helps create a sense of mental clarity and wakefulness, making this a popular morning or pre-work cup.

Antioxidant-rich leaves

Yerba mate and guayusa are naturally rich in plant antioxidants, which is part of why they have such a long-standing place in South American daily life.

Refreshing and warming

Peppermint brings a cooling brightness while ginger adds a gentle warmth, giving the blend a lively, refreshing character that keeps the cup interesting.

Coffee-free lift

For those who want energy without coffee, this blend offers a herbaceous, naturally caffeinated alternative that's just as easy to brew hot or iced.

Grades & Varieties

Mate-forward blend

A green, grassy blend led by yerba mate with guayusa, peppermint, and ginger in support. The most robust and traditionally energizing version, with mate's signature depth front and center.

Best for

  • Strong morning lift
  • Mate lovers
  • Pre-work focus

Guayusa-forward blend

A smoother, mellower version led by guayusa, which carries caffeine with less of mate's grassy bite. Easygoing and clean, ideal for those new to South American energy teas.

Best for

  • Smoother energy
  • Sensitive palates
  • All-day sipping

Iced-ready energizer

A peppermint-forward version of the blend designed to shine cold-brewed over ice, where the mint and ginger turn the caffeine lift into a crisp, refreshing cooler.

Best for

  • Hot afternoons
  • Iced energy drinks
  • Refreshing pick-me-ups
