Iced Guayusa with Pineapple and Ginger

A tropical iced energizer—cold-brewed guayusa poured over pineapple and ginger for a smooth, refreshing Amazonian alternative to iced coffee.

Cold-brewed guayusa makes one of the smoothest iced energy drinks around. Steeping the leaves in cold water draws out the clean caffeine lift while leaving behind any harshness, giving a mellow, naturally sweet base that's perfect over ice.

Tropical flavors are guayusa's best iced partners. Fresh pineapple brings juicy brightness, ginger adds a warming kick, and together they turn the tea's earthy notes into something vibrant and thirst-quenching—an Amazonian answer to iced coffee or energy drinks.

Cold-brewing overnight is the way to go. Hot-brewed guayusa chilled over ice can taste flat and overly earthy, while cold extraction keeps it crisp, smooth, and refreshing with a gentle, sustained energy.

Serve tall over plenty of ice with pineapple chunks and a sprig of mint. Because guayusa is caffeinated, this is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up for a hot day—clean energy without the crash, and far less sugar than a soda.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp guayusa loose leaf (or 3 bags)
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, cubed (plus extra to garnish)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1 tbsp honey or agave
  • Plenty of ice
  • Fresh mint to garnish

How to make it

  1. 1Place the guayusa, half the pineapple, and the ginger slices in a pitcher of cold water. Cover and refrigerate 8–12 hours.
  2. 2Strain through a fine sieve, pressing gently to extract flavor; discard the solids.
  3. 3Stir the honey or agave into a splash of the tea until dissolved, then stir back into the pitcher.
  4. 4Fill tall glasses with ice, pour over the iced guayusa, and garnish with fresh pineapple chunks and mint.
