Warm Rou Gui Spiced Comfort Brew
A cozy after-meal brew that leans into Rou Gui's natural cassia spice with a touch of fresh ginger and orange peel — warming, grounding, and gently focusing.
Rou Gui already carries a warm, cinnamon-like spice and a roasted, mineral depth, which makes it a wonderful base for a comforting wellness brew. Here it is gently amplified with a little fresh ginger and a strip of orange peel — nothing that overwhelms the tea, just companions that lean into its existing character.
Roasted oolongs are a traditional after-meal choice in Chinese tea culture, valued for the settled, cozy feeling they bring. This version keeps that spirit: a warming cup to sip slowly after dinner, or as a grounding pause that supports calm, steady focus during the day.
The key is a short, hot steep so the roast and spice come forward without turning bitter. Brew the leaves for about 90 seconds the first time, then keep re-steeping — Rou Gui gives several generous infusions, each a little softer and sweeter than the last.
Sip it plain to honor the tea, or add the barest touch of honey if you like. Best enjoyed in the morning, mid-morning, or after a meal, when its gentle warmth and medium caffeine feel most welcome.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Rou Gui oolong leaves (about 5 g)

- 1Place the Rou Gui leaves, ginger slices, and orange peel in a teapot or gaiwan.
- 2Pour in the hot water and steep for about 90 seconds.
