Golden Milk Spiced Toddy (with Mocktail Option)

A warming golden milk toddy with dark rum and honey — plus an alcohol-free version that keeps all the cozy turmeric-and-spice comfort for a quiet night in.

Golden milk makes a gorgeous base for a creamy, spiced nightcap. The turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon blend, simmered with milk, plays beautifully against a measure of dark rum and a spoonful of honey for a grown-up twist on a warm toddy.

Build the golden milk first — bloom the spice blend in warm milk with a touch of coconut oil so the turmeric dissolves and the black pepper supports curcumin uptake. Then stir in the rum off the heat so the alcohol stays smooth and the spices stay aromatic.

Keep the pour modest: a single measure of rum is plenty against the creamy, spiced base. A grating of nutmeg and a cinnamon stick make it feel like a proper cold-weather treat.

For a non-alcoholic mocktail, simply leave out the rum and add a splash of vanilla and an extra pinch of ginger for warmth — you'll have a comforting spiced golden milk that's perfect before bed, since the blend is naturally caffeine-free. Same cozy ritual, no buzz required.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (dairy, oat, or coconut)
  • 1 tsp golden milk spice blend (turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper)
  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil
  • 45 ml dark rum (omit for mocktail)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick to garnish

How to make it

  1. 1Warm the milk gently with the golden milk spice blend and coconut oil, whisking 3 minutes until golden (do not boil).
  2. 2Stir in the honey and vanilla until dissolved.
  3. 3Remove from heat and stir in the dark rum (for the mocktail, skip the rum and add an extra pinch of ground ginger).
