Nuwara Eliya Clarity Tonic with Lemon and Mint
A light, fragrant tonic that pairs Nuwara Eliya's floral brightness with fresh lemon and mint — a gentle mid-morning ritual for a clear, settled focus.
Nuwara Eliya's pale, floral character makes it an ideal base for a wellness tonic that wants to feel light rather than heavy — this is not a tea you want to bury under syrups or spices. A short, gentle steep keeps the cup bright instead of tannic.
Fresh mint amplifies the tea's own cooling, almost green-tea-like quality, while a squeeze of lemon lifts the floral top notes without adding sharpness. Together they turn an already delicate tea into something that feels like a clear-headed reset rather than a jolt.
Because Nuwara Eliya carries a moderate amount of caffeine alongside L-theanine naturally present in the leaf, this tonic is best suited to mid-morning or early afternoon — a steady, calm-alert lift rather than the harder wake-up of a stronger black tea.
Sip it slowly, ideally while doing focused work. The combination of gentle caffeine, theanine, and the tea's own perfume is traditionally associated with a settled, clear kind of attention rather than a racing one.
Ingredients
- 1 Nuwara Eliya tea bag or 2 tsp loose-leaf tea
- 1 cup hot water (90°C)
- 5–6 fresh mint leaves, lightly bruised
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 tsp honey (optional)
- 1 thin lemon slice for garnish
How to make it
- 1Place the tea and mint leaves in a cup or teapot. Pour the hot water over them.
- 2Steep for 3 minutes — no longer, to keep the cup light and avoid bitterness.
- 3Strain into a cup, then stir in the lemon juice and honey if using.
- 4Garnish with a thin lemon slice and serve warm.
