Purple Tea Antioxidant Tonic with Blueberry and Mint

A calm-energy wellness tonic that pairs Kenyan purple tea's anthocyanin-rich leaf with muddled blueberries and fresh mint for a gentle, focus-friendly daytime sipper.

This tonic leans into what makes purple tea distinctive rather than fighting it: instead of masking the leaf's berry note, it doubles down with a small handful of muddled blueberries, letting the natural anthocyanins in both the tea and the fruit reinforce each other in color and flavor.

Brewed at a moderate strength, purple tea provides a steady, medium caffeine lift without the sharp edge of a strong CTC black — a useful base for a tonic meant to support calm focus through the morning or early afternoon rather than a jolt of energy.

Fresh mint adds brightness and a cooling top note that keeps the drink from feeling heavy, while a touch of honey rounds out the tea's natural sweetness instead of covering it up.

Drink this mid-morning when you want sustained, even alertness — it's gentle enough not to disrupt an empty stomach and light enough to enjoy slowly over a work session rather than gulping down for a quick caffeine hit.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp loose Kenyan purple tea (or 1 tea bag)
  • 1 cup hot water (90–95°C)
  • 8–10 fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 4–5 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Squeeze of lemon (optional)

How to make it

  1. 1Steep the purple tea in hot water for 3–4 minutes, then remove the leaves or tea bag.
  2. 2While the tea steeps, gently muddle the blueberries and mint leaves in the bottom of a mug.
  3. 3Pour the hot tea over the muddled blueberries and mint and let sit for 1 minute.
  4. 4Stir in honey and a squeeze of lemon if desired. Strain into a fresh cup if you prefer a smoother sip, or drink as is.
