Shan Tuyet Ginger-Honey Morning Tonic

A warming morning tonic that pairs Shan Tuyet's malty, wild-honey depth with fresh ginger and a touch of real honey — built for a steady, grounded start to the day.

Shan Tuyet's full body and natural honeyed sweetness make it an ideal base for a morning tonic that needs no added sugar to feel indulgent. Brewed a touch stronger than usual, it stands up well to fresh ginger without losing its own malty character.

Ginger adds a gentle warming sensation that pairs naturally with the tea's own wild, forest-grown depth — a combination reminiscent of the way black tea is often taken in the cooler mountain mornings of northern Vietnam.

A small spoonful of real honey, rather than refined sugar, echoes the tea's inherent wild honey notes instead of masking them. Letting the tea steep a full 4–5 minutes here is intentional: Shan Tuyet's body holds up to a longer brew better than lighter black teas.

Drink this slowly in the first hour of the morning, ideally before food, to let the tea's steady caffeine lift settle in alongside the ginger's gentle warmth — a grounding ritual rather than a quick jolt.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp loose Shan Tuyet black tea (or 1 tea bag)
  • 1 cup hot water (95°C)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Small squeeze of fresh lemon (optional)

How to make it

  1. 1Place tea leaves and ginger slices in a teapot or infuser. Pour hot water over them.
  2. 2Steep for 4–5 minutes, then strain out the leaves and ginger.
  3. 3Let the tea cool slightly for 1–2 minutes, then stir in the honey until dissolved.
  4. 4Add a small squeeze of lemon if desired, and serve warm.
