Iced Boldo Yerba Mate Blend with Citrus

Cold-brewed boldo blended with yerba mate, grapefruit and orange: a bitter-bright South American iced drink for a hot afternoon, with the overnight method step by step.

This iced blend marries two South American staples: boldo's earthy, camphor-edged bitterness and yerba mate, the one ingredient in the jar that carries caffeine. Cold-brewing both together mellows the bitterness and brings out a smooth, herbaceous sweetness you'd never get from hot steeping.

The citrus is essential here—grapefruit and orange transform boldo's camphor edge into something bright and tropical. Think of it as a tereré-style drink with a bitter herbal backbone.

Cold-brewing overnight is the move. Hot-brewed boldo chilled over ice tastes medicinal and flat; cold extraction pulls the earthy, pleasant notes while leaving the harsh bitterness behind.

This is the drink for a hot afternoon when you want something cold that isn't sweet. The mate is where the caffeine comes from, the boldo is where the bitterness and the aroma come from—two South American jars in a single glass.
