Passionflower Bedtime Mocktail

An alcohol-free nightcap shaking passionflower tea with lemon, honey syrup, and a splash of sparkling water—all the ritual of a cocktail with none of the buzz.

Passionflower belongs to the end of the day, so the obvious choice for its 'cocktail' slot is an alcohol-free bedtime mocktail. This nightcap gives you all the ritual of shaking and garnishing a proper drink without anything that would disrupt your rest.

Strongly brewed, chilled passionflower tea forms the base, shaken with fresh lemon and a little honey syrup for brightness and body. A top of sparkling water adds a festive fizz, turning a simple infusion into something that feels special enough to sip slowly before bed.

Keep the flavors soft and balanced—just enough lemon to lift the mild herb, just enough honey to round it. Shaking with ice chills and lightly dilutes the drink, giving it that crisp, cocktail-like texture while staying entirely non-alcoholic.

This is intentionally a mocktail through and through; there is no spirit to add. The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health lists drowsiness, dizziness and confusion among possible side effects and states that passionflower should not be used during pregnancy—so treat it as an alcohol-free nightcap and keep it to the evening.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup strong passionflower tea (2 tea bags in 3/4 cup water), chilled
  • 20 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 15 ml honey syrup (equal parts honey and warm water)
  • Sparkling water, to top
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon twist and a mint sprig, to garnish

How to make it

  1. 1Brew the passionflower tea strong, then chill it completely.
  2. 2Add the chilled tea, lemon juice, and honey syrup to a shaker filled with ice.
  3. 3Shake well for about 15 seconds until cold.
  4. 4Strain into a chilled coupe or tumbler over fresh ice.
  5. 5Top with a splash of sparkling water and garnish with a lemon twist and mint sprig.
