The Tea Lounge
A tea lounge and café on Piccadilly Street, open since 2016, where more than 125 teas are poured at the table as a tea service and a short packaged shelf is sold online.
This is the London address where tea is a seat and a pot rather than a bag: the 125 teas live on the menu, and only a handful of them leave the building in a packet.
The Tea Lounge is at 268 Piccadilly Street, just off Richmond Row north of downtown London, Ontario, and has been pouring since 2016. Its site presents it as a café and restaurant with more than 125 teas, served at the table as a traditional or contemporary tea service, or to go, with tables booked online and a menu of food to go with the pot. The lounge opens Wednesday and Thursday from 11am to 4pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 6pm and Sunday from 11am to 4pm, and rests on Monday and Tuesday.
The web shop is small and mixes café items with packaged tea, so only the lines with a weight on the label count here: the Sexy, Spicy Rooibos Chai at CA$ 11 the 50 g, a 40 g Samurai Ceremonial Matcha at CA$ 38, an organic Lion's Mane Matcha in a 25 g pack at CA$ 16, a Moringa Leaf Tisane at CA$ 13 the 50 g and finely chopped valerian root at CA$ 11.50 the 50 g. The estate blacks and oolongs on the menu, a Vithanakande from Sri Lanka or a Yunnan golden needle, are listed as tea service rather than as bags.
Taken as a shop, then, it is thin: a chai, two matchas and two herbs. Taken as a tea room it is the deepest menu in the city, and the place to drink a pot of something before walking down to the market to buy 50 g of it. The gift certificates and the reservations system on its site are built around that, as is the week: closed Monday and Tuesday, open through the weekend when the market stall is at its busiest.
