Batavia Grey, Iron Dynasty, Chesire Grin: the names are the menu, and every one comes in a 50 g pack and a 500 g one.

Lewis & Carroll Tea is at Jl. Bumi No. 4 in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, and takes its name from Clive Staples Lewis and Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll. The house describes itself as a maker of craft tea blends built on exceptional ingredients and careful craftsmanship, sourcing leaf from plantations across Indonesia and abroad and blending with precision scales and purpose-built heating equipment. It is a tea house as well as a shop, and it takes private events and wholesale enquiries.

The catalogue is sorted into black, infused black, white, infused white, green, infused green, oolong, infused oolong, herbal, spices, fruit and flower, and each product comes as a 50 g pack and a 500 g one, with a few in 200 g. Divine Dewata, a black, is Rp 50,000 the 50 g; Java Jewels Rp 90,000; Batavia Grey, the house take on Earl Grey, Rp 100,000; Casablanca, a mint-scented green, Rp 130,000; Iron Dynasty and Chesire Grin, two oolongs, Rp 190,000 and Rp 240,000; Hayward White Rp 200,000; and a Ceylon Crown Rp 200,000 for 200 g.

The 500 g pack of each blend costs ten times the 50 g, so the small pack is where to start and the large one is for a tea you already know you like. Teaware and gift sets fill the rest of the shop, and the house invites visitors to take their time over a cup, in the words of C. S. Lewis that it quotes: you can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough. Opening hours are not published on the site; the phone number and e-mail are.

The one worth the trip

Chesire Grin

Chesire Grin, the dearer of the two oolongs and the blend with the most Carroll in its name, in the 50 g pack.
