A Japanese tea house in Kalamaja that brews and sells the matcha, hojicha and sencha of one fourth-generation family farm in Kizugawa, Kyoto.
Morii is the only shop in Tallinn where the tea in the pouch and the tea in your cup come from the same named family, and you can taste the first before paying for the second.
Morii Teahouse is at Kopli 16 in Kalamaja, the wooden-house district just north-west of the Old Town, and its site describes the place as a tea house first: matcha whisked in front of you, hojicha poured from a kyusu, seasonal tea drinks, pastries, and the same teas sold in pouches to take home. The tea comes from the Morii family farm in Kizugawa, Kyoto, now in its fourth generation, and the about page names Masakazu and Tomomi Morii as the family behind it. Every harvest, the site says, is opened, tasted and served over this counter before it reaches the website.
The list is short and entirely Japanese: a ceremonial Uji matcha in 30 g at 20,90 € and a first-harvest hojicha powder, then loose genmaicha, hojicha and kabusecha at 11,60 € for 50 g, a sencha in the same size that was sold out on the day of this check, and a Kyoto black tea, kyo-kocha, in 8 bags at 9,80 €. Nothing is flavoured and nothing is blended. Every product page shows a higher struck-through price next to the one you pay, so the prices recorded here are the ones at the checkout.
The tea house keeps late hours for a shop: Monday to Friday 9:00 to 22:00, Saturday 10:00 to 22:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 20:00, with tea evenings and workshops on the calendar. Web orders leave Tallinn stock in one to two working days, ship EU-wide, and are free within Estonia above 50 €. Wholesale and event enquiries have their own contact routes on the site, and the tea can be bought to take away at any hour the counter is open.
