The name means bitter tea, and the shelf takes it seriously: this is the counter in Fort Collins for the roasted, mineral oolongs of the Wuyi mountains.

Ku Cha House of Tea opened its doors in Boulder in 2005 and its first Fort Collins store in 2015, at 128 S College Ave, on the town's pedestrian-friendly stretch of boutiques, restaurants and shops. The Fort Collins shop opens every day from 10am to 7pm. It carries more than 100 teas, to-go drinks including boba and matcha, and tea accessories; the brand as a whole lists more than 250 teas and herbs.

The name joins ku, bitter, and cha, tea, and the list leans Chinese. There is a gongfu tea section and a row of Wuyi rock oolongs, Da Hong Pao from US$ 39.95 the 2 oz among them, beside a superior Tie Guan Yin at US$ 49.95 the 4 oz and a milk oolong at US$ 29.95. The blacks run from organic Assam and English Breakfast at US$ 19.95 the 4 oz to Golden Monkey at US$ 29.95, and the greens include a superior Dragon Well, jasmine pearls and an organic genmaicha.

Loose teas are sold in sizes from 2 to 5 oz up to a pound, with 10 % off the pound, and there is a smaller sample size too. A Colorful Colorado collection carries local names such as FoCo Cocoa Black Tea, and the shop offers blend-your-own tea, a membership and tea clubs. Web orders leave within 24 business hours when the teas are in stock.
