Josefin Te, Kaffe & Kryddor
A tea, coffee and spice stall inside Stora Saluhallen on Kungstorget, part of the city for over 30 years, with everyday loose teas from the 100 g bag.
The market-hall way to buy tea: the same counter as the cardamom and the coffee beans, and a bag weighed while you wait.
Josefin Te, Kaffe & Kryddor has been part of Gothenburg for over 30 years, and today its counter is inside Stora Saluhallen, the covered market on Kungstorget. It sells tea, coffee and spices side by side, along with chocolate and other delicacies, and opens on weekdays from ten to six and on Saturdays until five; it is closed on Sundays.
The tea is sold loose in 100, 250 and 500 g bags, and the range leans to the teas people drink every day: an English Breakfast, a Japanese Sencha Makoto and a Genmaicha with toasted rice, a masala chai already blended with its spices, a Formosa oolong and a Milky Oolong. The prices are low enough to buy the 250 g bag of a favourite, and the same stall sells the coffee and spices for the rest of the week.
The shop puts weight on personal service and on gifts: it puts together tea, coffee and spice parcels to a given budget, and orders sent by phone or email can be collected ready at the stall. The web shop sells the same bags online. For a first visit, buy the masala chai here, where the spices for a second batch are sold at the same stall.

from kr 75 · 100 g
Genmaicha, Japanese green tea with toasted rice: savoury, mild and low in bitterness, a good first green for someone who finds plain green tea grassy.

The one worth the trip
Milky Oolong
from kr 159 · 100 g
Milky Oolong, the lightly oxidised rolled oolong with a creamy, buttery cup, and the stall's most distinctive tea. It brews several times from one spoonful, which makes the 100 g bag last, and smelling it at the counter is the easiest way to see why people come back for it.
