A hundred per cent Taiwanese is a real constraint, and it is what makes this shelf readable: no Darjeeling to compare against, only the island's own oolongs, blacks and a white tea you will not find at home.

Jing Sheng Yu opened its first shop in September 2009 in a lane of Taipei's East District, Lane 216. That original shop has since closed, and in September 2019 the house reopened as a concept store at 1F, No. 11, Lane 8, Yongkang Street, in Da'an District, a few steps from the street's famous food stalls. It opens every day from 9:30 to 19:30, with last orders at the tea bar at 19:00, and takes table bookings.

Everything on the shelf is Taiwanese. The oolongs go from a light Alishan and a lightly roasted Dong Ding to Tieguanyin, Jin Xuan, Si Ji Chun, Wenshan Baozhong and Oriental Beauty; the blacks are Ruby No. 18 and a Lishan high-mountain black; and there are rare Taiwanese whites, among them a Bai Mao Hou in a 30 g tin. The classic tins hold 50 g or 100 g, there are refill packs of 100 g to 300 g, tea bags for travel and sparkling tea, and the house also sells Yixing and silver teaware.

Prices in the classic tins are moderate for the street: NT$ 880 for 100 g of Alishan, NT$ 780 for Tieguanyin, NT$ 580 for the Dong Ding, and NT$ 480 for 50 g of Baozhong, Ruby or ripe pu-erh. The shop runs seminars, has a membership programme, supplies hotels and companies, and ships sets to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and North America; it also has three shops in Melbourne.
