The Old Town's Chinese and Japanese tea specialist on Uus street: leaf by the 25 g, aged pu-erh, teaware and a tea room for events.
A 25 g packet at Chado costs about what a coffee does across the street, and it is the cheapest way in Tallinn to find out whether Wuyi rock oolong or first-flush Darjeeling is your tea.
Chado sits at Uus 11, on one of the quieter streets inside the Old Town walls, a few minutes from the harbour side of the centre. The shop's own story page traces its roots to 2004, when Steve Kokker founded FirstFlush, a wholesale company set up to bring higher-grade teas to Estonian cafés, restaurants and hotels and to run public tastings that introduced words like matcha, oolong and puerh to a new audience. The retail shop grew out of that, and today it is run by manager Timo Einpaul with a small team named on the same page.
The catalogue is organised by origin rather than by colour: whites, Chinese and Japanese greens, matcha, oolongs, Chinese reds and a long pu-erh section split into sheng and shou, with a Master's Collection of aged cakes from the 1970s to the 2000s at the top. Most loose teas come in 25, 50 and 100 g, so an organic English Breakfast at 5,00 € for 50 g, a 2026 Singell Darjeeling first flush and a Shizuoka Sencha Kura by the 25 g, a Da Hong Pao and the house shou pu-erh all stay under 6,00 € for the smallest packet. An Anxi Tieguanyin is sold as a 50 g pack.
Beyond the leaf there is teaware from Taiwan and Japan, Yixing clay pots, wood-fired cups by named potters, matcha bowls and whisks, plus chocolate and essential oils. The site lists tea events and a tea room that can be booked by the calendar, and separate contacts for the Old Town shop, the web shop, wholesale and events. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 12:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 11:00 to 16:00, closed on Sunday. Newsletter subscribers get their first order delivered free to a parcel locker anywhere in Estonia.
