Tea Et Al
A Jakarta tea brand built on a family tea business from 1952, sold in 50 g from counters inside The FoodHall, Galeries Lafayette and SOGO.
Indonesian and world teas in one 50 g format: a Shizuoka sencha, a Glenburn Darjeeling oolong and a Tie Guan Yin Prestige on the same counter as the Earl Grey.
Tea Et Al calls itself an international tea brand centred on the pleasure of drinking and sharing Indonesian and world-class teas in a modern format. Behind it is its founder and chief executive, A. N. Gunarto, who draws on her family's tea business, established in 1952, and on a cosmopolitan upbringing. The brand is headquartered in Jakarta and sells from four counters inside department stores and grocers: The FoodHall Gourmet on the lower ground floor of Plaza Indonesia, Galeries Lafayette at Pacific Place, SOGO Home on the fourth floor of Plaza Senayan and SOGO Home on the second floor of Lippo Mall Puri.
The range is sorted into classic, floral, fruity, herbal, signature and spiced teas, plus tea bags, gifts and teaware, and the site prices the loose leaf in a single 50 g format: Earl Grey at Rp 109,000, a Golden Eyebrow black at Rp 199,000, Da Hong Pao at Rp 179,000, a Tie Guan Yin Prestige at Rp 299,000, a second-flush Darjeeling oolong from the Glenburn estate at Rp 509,000, a Shizuoka sencha at Rp 279,000, Silver Needle at Rp 479,000, chamomile at Rp 209,000 and organic rooibos at Rp 199,000.
Buying online means a detour: the price sits on the brand's own page, but the buy button hands over to its marketplace store, and orders ship from Jakarta by courier. The counters are the simpler route, and the Plaza Indonesia one has its own phone line. A T.E.A. Society membership club, brewing hints and tea-pairing notes live on the site, which also lists retailers that stock the brand elsewhere in the city.
