Miro Tea was founded in 2007 at 5405 Ballard Ave NW and has been the café and the retail front for its own range ever since. Its founder, Jeannie, describes starting the business to share a drink that had been part of her life since she was young and that turned into a connection to her cultural heritage. The sourcing side works with independent growers and older estates across more than a dozen countries, and the buying cycle starts again with each new season.
The catalogue is the widest on the Seattle page: Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese and Indian leaf plus herbals, rooibos, yerba mate and teaware, more than 150 lines in all, every one of them available in bulk and by the cup in the café. Sizes climb 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 oz. Gunpowder is 11 US$ the 2 oz, Rooibos Organic 13 US$, Big Red Robe 15 US$ the ounce, Mokalbari Assam 16 US$ the 2 oz, Snow Mountain Buds 19 US$ and organic ceremonial matcha 28 US$ the ounce.
The café opens at 8:00 and runs a full drinks menu built on the same leaf: tea lattes, masala and rooibos chais, iced tea fusions made with fruit, juices and house syrups, plus full coffee service for the people who came in with someone else. The shelves carry teapots, cups, strainers, gongfu sets and matcha tools, and the company also wholesales to restaurants, cafés and other retailers. Online orders over 60 US$ ship free.

The one worth the trip
Big Red Robe

Da Hong Pao is the Wuyi rock oolong this shop is known for, and it is not alone: Rou Gui and Shui Jin Gui sit on the same shelf, which makes a side-by-side of three roasted Wuyi cultivars possible in one visit.
