A tea house founded in Lund in 1932, now with a counter in central Gothenburg and loose tea at family-shop prices.
Tehuset Java began in 1932 in Lund, when John Arnerius opened Java Importen in a small room of an eighteenth-century house on Västra Mårtensgatan. The present owners took it over in 1972, and the family business has since passed to the next generation and grown to shops in Lund, Stockholm and Lidingö. After a few summers with a seasonal shop in Marstrand, it opened a permanent one in central Gothenburg, at Korsgatan 15, in April 2025.
The tea is sold loose in 100 g, 250 g and one-kilo bags, and many of the everyday teas are organic: a Tie Kuan Yin from China, a Sencha and a Japanese Genmaicha, next to an Assam FOP and the house's own Lundablandning, its best-loved blend. There is a ceremonial matcha in a 100 g pouch, and the shelves also carry Kusmi Tea, coffee, porcelain and gifts. Every web order comes with free tea samples.
The Gothenburg shop is on Korsgatan in the city centre. The house publishes the shop's opening times on its stores page, where they change with the season, so check there before going. For a first visit, start with the organic Tie Kuan Yin and ask about the Lundablandning, the blend the house is known for in Lund.
