Companhia Portugueza do Chá is on Rua do Poço dos Negros, at number 105, between Santos and São Bento. The shop was set up in an old shoemaker's shop dating from 1880. It opens from ten in the morning to seven in the evening, Monday to Saturday, and closes on Sundays. It also sells online, with delivery, and describes itself as perfectionist and full of enthusiasm.
Its own blends are the heart of the shop: fine leaves mixed with organic flowers, spices or fruit, among them a Lisbon Breakfast house blend and an Earl Grey made with bergamot grown in Portugal. Beyond the blends the list covers black, white, green, oolong, pu-erh, rooibos, herbal teas and a set of rarer teas. Loose tea is mostly sold in 50 g and 100 g packs, with some of the more expensive teas also in 25 g, and there are tins as well.
The single-origin shelf is broader than the size of the room suggests. From China there are an organic Qimen black, Mao Feng Imperial, a jasmine green, Tie Guan Yin, an organic Da Hong Pao, Pai Mu Tan and a loose pu-erh from Yunnan; from Japan, Sencha Fuji from the spring harvest and a Gyokuro; and a Milky Oolong between the two. It is a shop where the classic and the house blend sit on the same counter.
