Around a hundred teas per shop, poured into fine chinaware at the counter with no obligation to buy: here you taste first and choose afterwards.
Sancha started in Old Delhi in 1981, under the mentorship of Sanjay Kapur, and today runs fifteen boutiques across India. Three of them are in Mumbai: Kala Ghoda in Fort, St John Baptist Road in Bandra West and the Phoenix Palladium mall in Lower Parel. The Kala Ghoda shop occupies a ground-floor unit of Machinery House, in the gallery district a short walk from the museums of Fort, and it keeps its longest hours from Wednesday to Sunday.
Each boutique carries around a hundred varieties, and the list leans on Indian estate black tea: a Rare Darjeeling second flush from the 2026 summer picking, a Single Malt Assam in the Grand Cru range, a Nilgiri and an Earl Grey blended on Darjeeling leaf. Beyond India there is a Fujian jasmine green, a Moroccan mint, a ceremonial Japanese matcha, two oolongs and a Silver Needle white. Sizes step from 25 g for the oolong and the white tea up to 100 g for the everyday blacks.
Tastings are free at every counter and served in fine chinaware, with no appointment needed and no haggling, because prices are fixed. The shops also stock teaware — cups, infusers, teapots and kettles — along with gift boxes and India-themed packs that travel well. The pyramid tea bags are made from corn fibre rather than plastic. Orders placed online are dispatched within 24 hours and reach anywhere in India in two to seven days, and the head office in Noida takes order pickups by arrangement.
