Iced Sleep Blend Tonic for Hot Summer Evenings

Hot herbal tea is the classic sleep ritual, but in midsummer a steaming mug just isn't appealing. This iced version delivers the same calming herbs in a refreshing format—cold-brewing extracts all the flavor without the heat.
Cucumber is the secret here. Its mild, cooling flavor amplifies the freshness of lemon balm and creates a drink that genuinely cools the body, useful when summer heat is interfering with sleep.
Cold-brew the blend overnight for the smoothest result. Hot-brewed and chilled chamomile can pick up a slight bitterness, while cold extraction keeps everything mellow and slightly sweet on its own.
Drink this 60–90 minutes before bed in summer—too close to bedtime and a cold drink can be too stimulating. The cucumber and honey provide a touch of natural sweetness without the sugar crash that disrupts sleep.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp sleep blend (chamomile + lemon balm + lavender; or 3 tea bags)
- 750 ml cold filtered water
- 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 tbsp honey dissolved in 2 tbsp warm water
- Fresh lemon balm or mint sprigs for garnish
- Ice cubes
How to make it
- 1Cold-brew: combine sleep blend, cucumber slices, and cold water in a pitcher. Cover and refrigerate 8–12 hours.
- 2Strain through a fine sieve into a clean pitcher. Discard solids (or save cucumber for snacking).
- 3Stir in lemon juice and honey syrup.
- 4Fill glasses with ice and pour the tonic over.
- 5Garnish with cucumber rounds and a sprig of fresh lemon balm or mint.
