Nothing here costs more than six euros, and everything is organic. That is a different promise from a tea house, and a useful one.
Sonnentor is an Austrian organic herb and tea company founded in 1988 by Johannes Gutmann in Sprögnitz, in the Waldviertel, and it sells through franchise stores as well as its own online shop. The Innsbruck store at Museumstraße 1 was opened in July 2016 by franchise partner Andréia Feldkircher, who was born in Brazil, and her team. The company's page for the shop places it at the entrance to the old town, with the Goldenes Dachl, Maria-Theresien-Straße, the Haus der Musik and the Hungerburgbahn all reachable on foot.
This is not a specialist tea house: there are no single-estate lots and no tasting counter, and the leaf is the brand's own range, packed in the Waldviertel. What the store does is cover the whole everyday shelf in organic form at supermarket prices: a Sencha at 4,89 € the 70 g, a Chinese Gunpowder and a Darjeeling by the 100 g, an Earl Grey, a Pai Mu Tan white in a 40 g bag, and the Kräuter Pur line of single herbs, from loose chamomile to peppermint and ginger, plus rooibos and chai in double-chamber bags.
The shop is open six days a week, Monday to Friday from 9 to 18 and Saturday from 9:30 to 17, with wood and natural materials inside, as the brand describes it. The prices on this page are the ones the brand publishes in its Austrian online shop, which is where the same bags can be ordered; the store itself is where to pick them up on the way to the Goldenes Dachl.
