Tippecanoe Herbs and Apothecary

Tippecanoe Herbs sits on South Kinnickinnic Avenue, the main street of Bay View, in a room that is an apothecary first: more than 150 bulk herbs, a small cafe that pours tea and cocoa, and a calendar of classes, workshops and herb walks that run out of the same space. The site describes it as a small family business founded in 2015 by herbalist Kyle Denton and his wife Serena Marinelli, and says they sell at farmers' markets as well as from the shop and online. The approach blends Ayurveda with Western herbalism.

The tea shelf is a short, honest set of classics, all organic or fair-trade bulk and all sold by the ounce: an Assam and an Earl Gray for the mornings, a Gunpowder and a Jasmine green, a Se Chung oolong, a fermented pu-erh, red rooibos and yerba mate. No matcha, no white tea, and nothing flavoured beyond the bergamot — the flavours live in the herb jars next door, and the shop clearly expects you to build your own blends from them.

Prices run from two and a half to four and a half dollars the ounce, which is the lowest entry point for loose leaf inside the city limits. That makes it the right place to buy five different ounces rather than one large bag, taste them across a week, and come back for the one you finished first. The storefront opens Tuesday to Saturday and closes Sunday and Monday; the online shop takes the same by-the-ounce orders.
