JägerTEE

JägerTEE opened in 1862 as Jäger & Comp at Operngasse 6, the address it still occupies, in the same years the Staatsoper was being built across the street; the house timeline notes that the opera opened in 1869 with Don Juan. Today the family business is in its fourth generation and calls itself Vienna's oldest tea shop. It opens Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00 between January and September, until 18:00 from October to December; Sundays and holidays it is closed. A second shop trades in Baden bei Wien, on the Pfarrgasse.

The list runs from a Breakfast Tea and a Jackson Earl Grey through Assam Gold, Ceylon Uva Highland and an organic Steinthal Darjeeling to Japanese sencha and bancha, Gunpowder, a Formosa Dong Ding, an organic Da Hong Pao, Yin Zhen Silver Needle, pu-erh, organic matcha from Kawane, chai, green rooibos, Nana mint and mate, with flavoured rooibos as the house's playground. Loose teas are sold in 50 g, 100 g, 150 g, 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg packs; online, the 50 g size was out of stock on most teas at the time of writing, so the 100 g pack is the working unit.

Behind the shop a TeaRoom serves from 10:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and by reservation on Saturdays, and hosts the house's tea seminars. The shop runs click & collect for web orders, ships within Austria with the Post AG, carries the organic certification AT-BIO-901 and keeps a tea of the month on the counter; in October it was a chocolate-banana rooibos. There is also a house Earl Grey gin liqueur, a line of Nature T-Bags in boxes of 15 and 50, and an Advent calendar every winter.
