Iced Malawian Black with Orange and Honey
A bold cold-brewed iced tea where Malawi's malty black tea meets bright orange and honey — a refreshing, full-flavored alternative to thinner iced teas.
Most iced black teas taste thin once diluted with ice, but Malawian Black's exceptional body means it holds its character even when chilled and stretched. This recipe takes advantage of that strength rather than fighting it.
Cold-brewing overnight is the move for the smoothest result — it draws out the malt and body of the leaf while leaving behind some of the sharper tannins that hot-brewed-and-chilled tea can develop, so the final glass tastes rounder rather than flat.
Orange is the natural partner here: its brightness lifts the tea's deep, malty base the same way it does in a classic builder's blend, while honey rounds out the edges without masking the tea's character.

Ingredients
- 4 tsp Malawian Black loose leaf (or 4 tea bags)
- 4 cups cold water
- 1 orange, sliced into rounds
- 2 tbsp honey
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
How to make it
- 1Combine the tea leaves, cold water, and half the orange slices in a jug. Cover and refrigerate for 8–12 hours.
- 2Strain out the leaves and orange slices, pressing gently to extract the last of the flavor.
- 3Stir in the honey until fully dissolved.
- 4Fill glasses with ice, pour the cold-brewed tea over, and garnish with fresh orange slices and mint.
