Tulsi Ginger Turmeric Adaptogen Shot

A potent morning shot combining tulsi's adaptogenic power with fresh ginger, turmeric, and black pepper—an Ayurvedic immunity boost in a small glass.

Tulsi—also known as holy basil—has been revered in Ayurveda for over three thousand years as a rasayana, a rejuvenating herb that helps the body adapt to stress. Concentrated into a small shot with ginger and turmeric, it becomes a potent morning ritual.

The clove-peppery character of tulsi pairs naturally with turmeric's earthy bitterness and ginger's heat. A pinch of black pepper isn't optional: piperine increases turmeric's curcumin absorption by up to two thousand percent, turning a tasty drink into a functional one.

Brew the tulsi strong and short—five minutes covered, to trap the volatile aromatics. The honey and lemon at the end balance the bitter notes and make the shot palatable even before coffee.

Take this on an empty stomach, before food and before coffee. The adaptogenic compounds in tulsi work best when they're the first thing your system encounters, building stress resilience that compounds over weeks of consistent use.

Ingredients

  • 2 tulsi tea bags or 2 tbsp dried tulsi leaves
  • 1 cup hot water (95°C)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Juice of half a lemon

How to make it

  1. 1Place tulsi, grated ginger, and turmeric in a mug. Pour hot water over and cover with a saucer.
  2. 2Steep for 5 minutes covered to keep the aromatic oils in the liquid.
  3. 3Strain through a fine sieve into a small glass or shot vessel.
  4. 4Stir in black pepper, honey, and lemon juice until honey dissolves.
  5. 5Drink warm in two or three sips on an empty stomach.
