Sancha Tea Boutique

Three Bengaluru boutiques of the Delhi tea house founded in 1981, where every visit begins with a free tasting in china cups and a sommelier at your elbow.

A shop that pours before it sells has nothing to hide about the leaf. Sit down, taste three, and buy the fifty grams you actually liked.

Sancha's own history starts in 1981, when a single tea store opened in the lanes of Old Delhi under the name Aap Ki Pasand, "your choice". The founder, Sanjay Kapur, describes himself as a master tea taster with a career of more than fifty years, and the company now calls itself India's only dedicated tea retail boutique chain, with fifteen stores across Delhi, Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Jaipur and Agra. Blending is done at its own facility in Noida, from estates registered with the Indian Tea Association.

Bengaluru has three of the fifteen. The one to start with is the ground floor of Lavelle Regency on Lavelle Road, in the business district, open every day from 11:00 to 20:00; the other two are counters in Phoenix Mall of Asia in Hebbal and Phoenix Marketcity on Whitefield Road, both open until 22:00. The house rule is the same at all three: a complimentary tasting served in fine china, with no obligation to buy, and staff trained to walk you through each tea's origin and how to brew it. Every purchase leaves in the house gift bag.

The range is around a hundred teas: white, green and black, masala chai blends, herbal infusions and a Chinese and Japanese shelf that is unusual for an Indian chain. The Darjeeling second flush and the single-malt Assam are the reason to visit; the Wuyi oolong, the jasmine pearls and the ceremonial matcha are the reason to stay. Everything comes in 50 g or 100 g tins and caddies, and the same catalogue ships from the website across India.

What to buy here

  • Darjeeling

Rare Darjeeling Tea, Second Flush 2026, Premier Cru

    from ₹ 800 · 100 g

A second-flush Darjeeling from this year's summer picking, which is the muscatel season, in a 100 g tin. If you taste only one thing at the counter, make it this: it is the tea the house was built on, and it shows what a fresh-season Darjeeling does that a supermarket blend cannot.

  • Wuyi Oolong

    Wuyi Mountain Oolong Tea

    ₹ 650 · 50 g

A Chinese rock oolong from the Wuyi mountains, roasted and mineral, sold in a 50 g caddy. Very few Indian shops carry one at all; this is the tea to buy if the Darjeeling tasting left you wanting something darker without going to a black.

  • Masala Chai

    Original Masala Chai

    ₹ 400 · 100 g

The house masala chai in a 100 g pack, loose or in bags at the same price. It is the cheapest tin in the shop and the best souvenir of the three cities: a Delhi blender's idea of chai, bought in Bengaluru, to boil with milk at home.

The one worth the trip

Single Malt Assam Tea, Sancha Grand Cru

from ₹ 900 · 50 g

The Sancha Grand Cru single-malt Assam, in a 50 g tin, is the most expensive black leaf in the shop by weight and the one that justifies a tasting on its own: a whole-leaf Assam with the malt turned all the way up, meant to be drunk without milk. Ask for it at the counter and decide there.
