La Tienda del Té has been at Calle San Juan 22, in the heart of Málaga's old town, since 1994, which makes it more than thirty years on the same street. It is the everyday counter rather than a specialist single-estate room: black, green, red, white, blue, decaffeinated, matcha, rooibos, herbal infusions, chai and spices, with coffee from Colombia and teaware next to them. The shop sells across the counter and online, and packs its orders in Málaga.
Nearly everything is bagged in 50, 100, 150 and 250 g, and the price structure is unusually flat: the long list of classics — English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Assam, Darjeeling, Lapsang Souchong, Irish Breakfast, Japan sencha, gunpowder, jasmine, China bancha, imperial puerh, pure rooibos, vanilla rooibos and the chai infusion — all share the same entry figure for 50 g. Only a few climb above it: genmaicha, kukicha, the Pai Mu Tan white, the Formosa oolong, the milky oolong and the ceremonial organic matcha, which comes in a 30 g tin.
The rest of the shop is what a neighbourhood counter needs: teapots, cups, thermal bottles, filters and accessories, matcha sets and bowls, tins, superfoods and chai latte. The website lists more than two hundred references and ships from Málaga in 24 to 72 hours, free above €35, to Spain, Portugal and Andorra. Opening hours follow the Andalusian split day, mornings and late afternoons from Monday to Friday and mornings only on Saturday.

The one worth the trip
Matcha Ceremonial Orgánico

This is the one item that breaks the shop's flat price structure: a ceremonial organic matcha in a 30 g tin, priced at several times the 50 g figure that covers almost everything else on the shelf. It is also the only tea here sold ground rather than whole leaf, and the shop keeps matcha bowls, whisks and full sets on the same floor to go with it.
