Mesa is a thin market for tea and most searches for it land you in Tempe, Chandler or Scottsdale instead, so this page is short on purpose: two shops that are genuinely inside Mesa and genuinely sell leaf by weight. One is a herb apothecary a block off Main Street downtown that weighs tea by the ounce with a two-ounce minimum, which makes it the cheapest way to try five things at once in the whole Phoenix area. The other is an Asian grocery on South Dobson Road whose tea aisle leans Taiwanese, with high-mountain oolong and jasmine by the 150 g bag. Between them you get black, green, oolong, chai, matcha and chrysanthemum; neither carries the other's strengths.

That is the lowest entry price on this page by a wide margin — an English Breakfast at 3,18 US$ the ounce, a Chunmee green at 3,68 US$, an organic Green Chai at 3,04 US$, a Jasmine Green at 4,10 US$ and matcha powder at 7,57 US$. The site says the shop was opened in 2005 by herbalist Kathleen Gould and moved to this Mesa address in 2008, and that it is now run by her son; it also runs a herbal certification course and guided plant walks. No oolong, white or pu-erh on the loose-leaf shelf.

The leaf is largely Taiwanese and the product pages give origin, brewing temperature and tasting notes: an 888 Alishan high-mountain oolong at 35,00 US$ for 150 g, a Sweet Osmanthus green at 25,00 US$ for the same weight, jasmine dragon pearls at 25,00 US$ for 8 oz and a plain jasmine at 10,00 US$ for 3 oz, plus baby chrysanthemum buds at 10,00 US$. There is no black tea in the catalogue, and pickup takes two to four days rather than being ready the same afternoon.
