Golden Tips
A Málaga tea and coffee house two streets from the market, open since 2002, with first-flush Darjeeling and Kirishima matcha priced by 100 g.
Estate names instead of categories: Badamtam, Makaibari, Singell, Banaspaty, Yame, Kirishima, Jun Chiyabari.
Golden Tips sits at C/ Especería 26, two streets from the Mercado de Atarazanas, in the old town. Its own history page dates the opening of the shop to 2002 and the founding of the business by Raúl Moreno to 2001. Moreno still does the international buying, the quality control and the training, and holds a tea sommelier certification from the Club del Té; his co-founder, Antonio Aguilar, runs the physical shop, chooses the teaware and handles the shipping. Tea, coffee and chocolate share one counter.
The origin list is deeper than the size of the city would suggest. Darjeeling arrives as an organic first flush from Badamtam and a second flush from Makaibari, with a 2026 Singell first flush alongside them; Assam comes from Banaspaty. Japan is covered by bancha, kukicha, Kagoshima hojicha, Yame sencha and Kirishima matcha in 30 g tins in two grades. China and Taiwan bring Anxi Tie Kuan Yin, Wuyi Da Hong Pao, a Gabalong and a Thai Jinxuan. Prices run by 100 g, and every leaf is also sold in 250, 500 and 1000 g.
Under the single origins there is an everyday shelf: loose peppermint is the cheapest leaf on the list, and chamomile, three rooibos, a plain shou pu-erh and a mini tuo cha all stay under €9 the 100 g. The shop also sells coffee from Uganda, Ethiopia and Burundi, keeps a section of teaware and accessories, runs tastings and events, and supplies professionals. It ships anywhere in Spain, free above €40, and closes the physical shop from 15 to 23 August for the Málaga fair.

The one worth the trip
Té Blanco Nepal Jun Chiyabari BIO
from € 20.90 · 100 g
Golden Tips lists an organic white from Jun Chiyabari, a garden in Nepal, on the same shelf as a Pai Mu Tan King and a Yunnan Silver Needle: three white teas from three countries, side by side. Nepal is the one nobody expects, and the shop will weigh it out by 100 g or sell it to you by the kilo if it turns out to be your tea.
