TeaTime
An Old Town tea boutique on Fifth Avenue, selling tea since 2009 from a German-style tea wall of nearly 100 teas, with its own blends and booked afternoon teas.
The tea wall came from a German chain; what the shop built on top of it is its own, from the blends sold nowhere else to an afternoon tea you book two days ahead.
TeaTime opened in 2009 at 7051 E 5th Avenue, Suite C, in Old Town Scottsdale. It started as part of a German tea chain and has since become an independently owned boutique, but it kept the ceremonial German tea wall that still organises the room. It opens Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday from 11am to 4pm, and its teas can also be ordered online or through the usual delivery apps.
The collection runs to nearly 100 teas, sold in 100 g and one-pound bags. The black shelf covers English Breakfast at US$ 18 the 100 g, an organic Makaibari Darjeeling, Keemun and Lapsang Souchong; the greens go from Pinhead Gunpowder at US$ 16.20 to a gyokuro at US$ 89. There is a ceremonial-grade matcha, Silver Needle and White Peony, an organic shu pu-erh, and a Hand-Crafted section of blends made in the shop and sold only there.
Over the years the shop has added tea classes, private events and a full tea service. Afternoon tea is served by reservation only, booked two days in advance and paid in full, with a menu that can be adjusted for allergies and a gluten-free option. Anyone can also walk in, choose a tea from the wall and drink a cup in the shop, or take one to go.
