A River Heights boutique that has sold loose-leaf tea and freshly roasted coffee from one counter since 2004, mostly in 50 g bags.
The Dutch idea behind the shop is that tea and coffee belong in the same room, and the 50 g bag is what keeps the tea side honest: you can try a Tung Ting without committing to a tin.
Cornelia Bean is at 417 Academy Road in River Heights, and it has been there since 2004. It was established by Cory Krul, its president, and her husband Bob Krul, and it is named after Cory's grandmother Cornelia Boon, born in 1899 in Broek op Langedijk, north of Amsterdam. The shop describes itself as a loose-leaf tea and freshly roasted coffee boutique in the Dutch tradition of selling both from a single shop, and the coffee side carries beans from Canadian roasters such as 49th Parallel, Pilot, Detour and Phil & Sebastian.
The tea catalogue is organised by type, from fruit and herbal through rooibos, black, green, matcha, pu-erh, oolong and white, and most loose teas come in 50 g and 100 g, with a few in 25 g and 200 g. The everyday blacks sit at one price: English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Assam Bukhial and Masala Chai are CA$ 8 the 50 g, as are rooibos and yerba mate. Dragon Well and a Castleton Darjeeling are CA$ 14, Iron Goddess and an organic Japanese sencha CA$ 15, Tung Ting CA$ 19.50, a five-year Golden Pu-erh CA$ 24, and an Aiya organic ceremonial matcha CA$ 40 the 30 g tin.
Around the tea there is teaware, matcha tools and Japanese ceramics, and the shop puts together custom gift boxes, wedding favours and corporate favours. Orders over CA$ 100 ship free within Canada and are delivered free anywhere in Winnipeg; under that, Canada Post rates apply or a CA$ 12 city delivery, and pickup in store is free. Phone and email orders are taken as well. The hours change with the season: Monday to Saturday from October to December, Tuesday to Saturday the rest of the year, always 10am to 5pm.

The one worth the trip
Matcha Organic Ceremonial Grade Green Tea (Aiya)

An organic ceremonial-grade matcha from Aiya, one of the older matcha houses in Nishio, sold in a 30 g tin. It is the dearest thing on this list by weight, and the reason to buy it on Academy Road rather than online is that the shop also stocks the whisk, the bowl and the sieve, so the first bowl can be made properly the same afternoon.
