The same wall of more than 300 teas as in every TeeGschwendner, which in a city of this size means the widest list in town, and the only one open until seven.
TeeGschwendner describes itself on its site as a company founded in 1978 by Albert and Gwendalina Gschwendner, franchising since 1982 and run from Meckenheim, near Bonn, with a range that has counted more than 300 loose teas since the early 1990s and a network that reached 125 franchise shops in Germany in 2013. The Oldenburg shop is a franchise at Schloßplatz 3, on the square by the castle in the city centre, open Monday to Saturday 10:00–19:00 and closed on Sunday; the chain's webshop lets a customer reserve online and collect at the counter.
Prices are the chain's web prices, one pack size per tea, almost always 100 g. The black list starts low and climbs by origin: Assam FOP Second Flush at 4,90 €, English Breakfast at 5,80 €, Kenia Siomo Superior OP1 at 5,90 €, Ceylon Nr. 21 OP from Nuwara Eliya at 6,50 €, Earl Grey Nr. 69 at 6,60 €, an organic Lapsang Souchong at 7,40 €, an organic Keemun at 7,80 € and the Darjeeling Nr. 9 TGFOP1 Himalaya First Flush at 9,50 €. Nearly half of the range is certified organic, and the Oldenburg shelf follows the catalogue.
The greens and the rest run higher: Gunpowder Bio at 5,30 €, Japan Sencha Bio at 9,80 €, Genmaicha Bio at 9,90 €, a Wuyuan jasmine at 11,80 €, Lung Ching Bio and a mild-roast Hojicha at 12,90 €, Pai Mu Tan Bio at 14,60 € and the Formosa Fancy Superior Oolong Taifu at 18,80 € for 100 g, with the Matcha Sei at 23,90 € for a 30 g tin. The caffeine-free end is where the chain is cheapest: organic Fairtrade rooibos at 4,90 € for 100 g, green mate at 4,90 € for 120 g, peppermint at 6,90 € for 70 g and chamomile blossoms at 7,90 € for 90 g.
