Cafeto & Camellia sits at Calle Calixto III 45, bajo 4, in Extramurs, the district just west of Valencia's old centre. The name puts the two plants side by side — the cafeto is the coffee tree, Camellia the tea one — and that is exactly how the shop works: specialty coffee on one side, more than a hundred teas and infusions on the other. It sells online as well as over the counter, and the site also offers the business as a franchise.
Everything comes in 50, 100 and 250 g. The ladder is easy to read: sencha, lapsang souchong, rooibos, peppermint, linden and hibiscus on the bottom rung; English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Assam BOP, organic Darjeeling, Ceylan Pekoe, jasmine green and chamomile a step up; gunpowder, organic genmaicha, organic bancha, Moroccan mint, Pu Erh Yunnan and chai above that; then a Se Chung oolong, organic kukicha and Pai Mutan, and at the top a ceremonial matcha, a milky oolong and an organic Gyokuro Asahi.
The catalogue is sorted into categories that go beyond the six families, with separate shelves for yellow tea, decaffeinated tea and yerba mate alongside the blacks, greens, whites, oolongs, pu-erhs and infusions. Accessories take up as much room as the leaf: teapots, coffee makers, strainers, measuring spoons, filters, infusers, tins, mates, cups, thermoses, tisane pots and a set of matcha tools. Opening hours are not published on the site, so it is worth a call before crossing the city.

The one worth the trip
Té Verde Gyokuro Asahi BIO

Gyokuro is shade-grown Japanese green tea, and this organic Asahi sits at the very top of a list where nearly everything else is an everyday price. It is the only shaded green the shop carries, and it comes in the same 50 g bag as the cheapest black — so the expensive tea here is still a small, reversible purchase. If you have been drinking the shop's sencha, this is the trip that shows what the same plant does under shade.
