Kansas City has two tea houses that could hardly be more different. One, in Brookside since 2002, sells a long wall of organic loose teas and house blends by the ounce, with free in-store pickup for web orders. The other, on the first floor of Crown Center, is a tea house and salon founded in 2005 that specialises in white teas from Fujian, sold from a 15 g sample upwards. A local coffee roaster rounds out the list with boxed tea sachets. Prices on this page run from US$ 4.45 for an ounce of organic English Breakfast to US$ 40 for an ounce of Silver Needle.

White tea from Fujian is the speciality: White Peony King from US$ 8 the 15 g sample, Gong Mei at US$ 25 the ounce, Shou Mei at US$ 28 the 2 oz and Silver Needle King at US$ 40 the ounce. The red teas are made from white-tea cultivars, from Bai Lin Kung Fu at US$ 8 the 15 g, alongside an Oriental Beauty oolong, a special reserve green and an aged yellow tea. Hour-long tastings of five teas are booked a week ahead.
